Our History

[Ver en Espa
Interamerica Soccer League was incorporated with the Rhode Island Secretary of State's Office in the summer of 2008. In the same year, this new organization took charge of the soccer tournament previously run by the now inexistent Liga Panamericana. Since its inception, Interamerica Soccer League has been managed by a Board of Directors. This Board of Directors is responsible of making all decisions and handling any issues pertinent to the operation of the league and its activities. As former players and managers, the Directors of Interamerica Soccer League closely relate to the views and concerns of all participants. In fact, it was this perspective that motivated us to establish the league convinced that things can be done better.

Our commitment is to run a league that promotes sports and physical activity as an integral part of the lives of our participants, and to do this in a safe environment that offers more comfort and benefits for all. This philosophy has made us work arduously and in our short existence the following highlights are worthy of mention:

  1. Interamerica Soccer League is the first league to equip its referees with two-way closed circuit radios. Some benefits of this system are:

    • Greater communication between linesmen, referee, and the control table.

    • Minimizes reaction time of the referee in plays or incidents occured outside his field of vision.

    • Minimizes distraction of the linesmen and referee at the time of substitutions.

    • Maximizes the safety of our participants and spectators due to the immediate lines of communication.

  2. Our prizes are comparable and in many cases greater than other leagues. In spite of our small scale in comparison to other leagues, in our first soccer tournament in 2008 we delivered $3,500.00 in prizes. In our first futsal tournament in 2008/2009 we delivered $3,800.00 in prizes and along the winter season in 2009/2010 we anticipate an increase of 60 percent in prizes.

  3. Interamerica Soccer League maintains an updated web site, with current information about game results, team standings, game schedules, pictures and more. As time goes on, the content and design of our web site will keep improving.

  4. Interamerica Soccer League has an agreement with the Pawtucket YMCA to host our futsal tournament at their complex . This gives our participants a high quality playing field, and gives them the opportunity of using the complex without additional cost*. The complex offers aerobics equipment, weights, pool, sauna, raquetball, wall climbing, kids playground and more. These benefits are also extended to the spectators.

  5. Interamerica Soccer League is also socially responsible. In December, 2008, we had the opportunity to donate some of our time and funds to Unidos en Accii>, a not-for-profit organization that set out to provide food to low income families during the holiday season. During the summer, 2009, we also supported the Central Falls Yourth Soccer Association (CFYSA), with some funds and technical assistance. Together we established CFYSA's online presence to increase and facilitate communication with their participant base. Recently, we also organized a one-day futsal tournament to raise funds for a local church. We hope to have more opportunities like these in the future, that allow us to contribute to our community.
Without a doubt we are proud of our achievements in such a short time since our inception. However, we are conscious that the road ahead is long. That the challenge is great, but we are confident that our will is greater and we are convinced that with your support we will make Interamerica Soccer League the number one in Rhode Island.
